Biblical Perspective
The scriptural ideal is that two shall become one flesh (Gen. 2:24).  God intended the man and the woman to be bound together until death (Rom. 7:2; 1 Cor. 7:10, 11; Mark 10:9).

Proverbs 18:22
The man who finds a wife finds a good thing; she is a blessing to him from the Lord.

Hebrews 13:4
Honor your marriage and its vows, and be pure; for God will surely punish all those who are immoral or commit adultery.

1 Corinthians 7:3, 4
The man should give his wife all that is her right as a married woman, and the wife should so the same for her husband: for a girl who marries no longer has full right to her own body, for her husband then has his rights to it, too, and in the same way the husband no longer has full right to his own body, for it belongs also to his wife.
