Biblical Perspective
Jesus Christ came to release those who are captive and to help people gain self-control, which is a fruit of the Spirit
(Gal. 5:22, 23).

1 Corinthians 6:12
I can do anything I want to if Christ has not said no, but some of these things aren't good for me.  Even if I am allowed to do them, I'll refuse to if I think they might get such a grip on me that I can't easily stop when I want to.

Luke 4:18
He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted and to announce that captives shall be released and the blind shall see.

Galatians 5:1, 13
So Christ has made us free.  Now make sure that you stay free and don't get all tied up again in the chains of slavery... For, dear brothers, you have been given freedom; not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love and serve each other.
